The purpose of summer school is to help serve students who choose to accelerate their learning by taking courses ahead of the standard schedule and / or to prepare them for the rigor of AP course work. These course offerings can also be used by students looking to remediate previously completed course work.

Techniques in Musical Theater - July 22nd - August 2nd
Students in Music-Drama will participate in the development of an original musical. There will be work in acting, singing and scene development for musical theater. Students will spend their time in both drama and music class and rehearsal.

Summer Courses - 2019
AP / SAT Prep - Language & Literature - Block 1 or 2
Students in AP and SAT prep will be given training in test taking skills for both types of tests. Students will be introduced to the types of questions and wording of those questions to develop their skills of recognition and cognizance of the language of the tests. They will work on their reading comprehension skills as needed for both types of tests, as well as reading literary pieces for various time periods that are often used on the tests. They will practice recognizing and developing thesis statements, rhetorical techniques, and writing conventions in the reading and writing essays.
Theology I - III - Semester - Block 1
The purpose of this course is to summarize God’s revelation through His prophets and apostles and engaging in exposition, debate and rhetoric regarding God’s salvation plan through His Law and Gospel. The student, using logic, will show comprehension of basic/intermediate/advanced doctrines of Scripture through assignments, testing and application. The student will apply and use logic, exposition, debate and rhetoric using Holy Scripture as the Divine Authority, liturgy, confession and Christian traditions with truth and goodness in a beautiful way, in order to express and reasonably support these realities. Making sound judgments and reasoning towards Truth, students will sharpen one another in life long skills of Scripture exposition and application.
English Bridge - Semester - Block 1 or 2
Through, reading, writing, and collaborative work, students will develop a better understanding of the English language. This course aims to:
1. Teach students how to analyze a text or set of texts
2. Refine basic writing and editing skills
3. Encourage academic inquiry and research to build on prior knowledge
4. Expand current knowledge on English writing conventions like grammar and spelling
In order to achieve the above objectives, students should actively participate in the personal academic development that occurs when completing the work of this course. This course will teach students to be more well-rounded citizens of the world and prepare them for the academic rigor placed upon them in High School.

Algebra 2 - Semester 1 & 2 - Block 1
This course is intended to reintroduce and solidify students understanding of concepts seen in Algebra II. Specifically, students will expand their knowledge of exponents, polynomials, and factoring as well as explore rational exponents, function operations, radical equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, rational expressions and equations, and an introduction to probability and data. There will be an emphasis on solving real world applications exploring polynomial, rational, and radical relationships.
Geometry - Semester 1 & 2 - Block 2
This course emphasizes the relationships among geometric figures and concepts generally seen in Geometry. Specifically, students will explore basic figures (points, lines, and planes), parallel lines, congruence, similarity, polygons, coordinate geometry, area, volume, circles, and right triangle trigonometry. Students will apply logical thinking throughout the course, without an emphasis on formal proofs. There will be an emphasis on solving real world applications using these concepts throughout the course.
Pre-Calculus - Semester 1 & 2 - Online
The purpose of this course is to strengthen student understanding of concepts seen in a Pre-Calculus course. It is intended to prepare students for more advanced mathematics courses, such as calculus. Specifically, students will primarily explore functions that include linear, polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions. This course will also cover select topics from advanced trigonometry including trigonometric and circular functions, their graphs, and trigonometric identities and equations. There will be an emphasis on solving real world applications throughout the course.
Spanish 1 - 2 - Semester - Block 1 or 2
Recovery courses for students 9-12 designed to give students a chance to improve skills in Spanish and make up grades to earn credit in classes previously taken, thereby satisfying graduation and/or college entrance requirements.

Geography - Semester - Online
Geography is a freshman level course designed to aid students in developing an understanding of the world we live in. In this class we will study three aspects of geography: physical features, cultural features and historical features in the context of five themes: Location, Place, Region, Movement, and People/Environment relations. By thoroughly examining these three aspects, students will better understand their place in the world and their relationship to it. This course is approved under the California State A to G requirements and is accepted at all U.C. and C.S.U. universities.
World History - Semester - Block 2
This course is an accelerated chronological study of world history with a major emphasis placed on events beginning with the formation of modern civilizations until the modern era. This course is designed to acquaint the student with modern thought and philosophy through a study of world events, leaders, and ideas. It will examine major events and people that have influenced the World today. This course will deal with all the subject matter that would be taught in a year in an accelerated format. This course is approved under the California State A to G requirements and is accepted at all U.C. and C.S.U. universities.
AP U.S. History Prep - Semester - Block 1
This summer course is an AP Prep Course an overview study of American History with a major emphasis on the experiences of the American people. The diversity of the American people and the relationships among different groups including the roles of race, class, ethnicity, and gender in the history of the United States are developed. In addition, changes in trade, commerce, and technology across time, the effects of capitalist development, labor and unions, and consumerism will be explored. Democratic citizenship will be discussed through colonial and revolutionary legacies, American political traditions, the growth of democracy, and the development of the modern state. Diverse movements reform movements focusing on a broad range of issues. This course is to prepare a student for AP US History, to make sure they are successful when they take the course in their Junior year. This course is approved under the California State A to G requirements and is accepted at all U.C. and C.S.U. universities.
