The purpose of this course is to teach the students skills needed to be physically fit for life. The skills that will be covered in this course are goal setting, nutrition, stretching techniques, cardiovascular training, strength training, and alternative training ideas. Each student will be required to participate in class activities, and create workouts for the class. The course emphasizes individual responsibility for attaining and maintaining wellness through preventive maintenance and Christian values.
This course is designed for all students with or without previous experience in dance. Students will develop body awareness, proper alignment, motor efficiency, strength, flexibility, coordination, multi-sensory integration, the ability to perform simple to more complex dance sequences, and the ability to memorize choreography, while being introduced to the art of dance. Students will design individual dance works based on design elements and principals as well as responses to historical, philosophical and cultural prompts, learn and use dance vocabulary, and create dance works using the techniques of ballet, jazz, modern, and hip hop. The goal of this course is for students to demonstrate an understanding of processes and techniques used in creating dance works, illustrate basic skill building in execution of dance vocabulary, and ultimately create dance works that that effectively shows individual creativity and problem-solving abilities.
